CHIME MACHINE

Group Project Work, Arduino Programming

Given a small set of materials and a song, our team of three mechanical engineers and I had to design a machine that would play the notes on chimes using an Arduino.

Chime Machine: Project

How do you design an optimized system to play a song on chimes, given only a few feet of steel pipe, 3 pistons, and 2 motors?

Our group collaborated to create CAD in Onshape for the chime machine after we'd arrived at the final design together. We used charts to vote and decide which method would best fit the assignment criteria. My drawings and creative leadership allowed our group to think outside of the box in this traditional engineering class. Our solution was embraced for its creativity, and the fact that it would allow us to play more notes than any other system.

Our group did the exact calculations for finding the resonance frequencies that would allow the metal pipes to play the correct notes when hit with a mallet.

Unfortunately, the project was cut short because of our COVID shortened semester, but we just needed to build the final model and upload the code for it to work.
