How do you make a toy divergent and convergent?

Divergent and convergent toys are often presented as two completely separate markets with no overlap - so what happens when you combine them? How do you make a toy that has both a use with rules and a use without them?

Divergent Toy Design: Bio

Concepting took on the bulk of my system design here, and ultimately I settled on a system that used wooden blocks to change how a child could play with it. Blocks were integrated with sloping marble tracks on one side, and magnetic X's and O's on the other. This became Run, the marble system, tic tac toe board, and magnetic exploration tool. I built and rendered this in Solidworks in addition to building out a brand to really sell this toy.
